Our sister hospital, Animal Emergency Hospital DeLand, recently had the chance to sponsor its very first flight rescue mission. Our consulting veterinarian, Dr. Luiz Bolfer, MV, DBCVECC, Ph.D, who is also a pilot, was contacted by Animal Services of Highlands County, in Sebring, FL. The shelter, operated by the Highlands County Sherrif’s Department, was full, and a very skinny, sick Pointer puppy named Azer needed a second chance.
A nonprofit, no-kill rescue group, Florida Pointer Rescue in New Smyrna Beach, offered to take Azer, but he needed transport to get there. Dr. Bolfer was contacted at D&J Aviation Animal Rescue, and he agreed to fly Azer to his new home. After bad weather delayed his flight for two days, the trip was finally on. Azer remained calm throughout his flight and enjoyed the views. He was safely handed off to Heidi with Florida Pointer Rescue, who will help him find his forever home.
Our new sister hospital, Animal Emergency Hospital DeLand, was proud to support Azer’s rescue mission. The animals we serve and love are the reason we come to work every day, and we are thankful for the chance to help save the lives of all pets in need.
